Skee’s role in the Iraqi elections

Posted on 06 March 2010 by Judit

There are elections this weekend in Iraq. But I don’t think the future of the country can very much change this time either. Hopes can be high, and of course we all wish peace for the thousands of innocent sufferers of a never ending war.

Those Iraqis and Kurds living in Sweden could already leave their votes in the ballot boxes yesterday, and the ones who are resident in Norway can vote today. (Göteborgs-Posten)

Out walking the dogs next to the E6 international highway I met a big group of voters who took a break at Skee Statoil on their way to Göteborg. 2 coaches and many cars escorted by tv-reporters “invaded” the small gas station. Many with families. Flags with the image of burning candle, Kurdish flags, cheerful music, properly dresses people in good spirit. First I thought it was a wedding procession.

I admire them, Kurdish people. All the calamities they are bearing with patience and pride, and they are still able to smile and dance as life goes on.
